and i think it is a good one. host: lesley from missouri. caller: i helped barack obama become elected. i notice the nation is not behind him. they are not making the money that people at the top are making. when the people at the top try to negotiate will happen for the people at the bottom, there will be a constant setback of growth. when you have politicians not taking care of business, you have more outgrowth then you have income. right now our country has more outgrowth then income. if you don't have that overhead, you end up losing what you have. host: george zornick. guest: a lot of people like to talk about world aid. you could look at the defense budget. many liberals have tried to do that. it appears the defense sequester will be avoided. it is kind of tricky. it is an across-the-board cut. you have the same amount coming out there as you do in these ridiculous weapons systems. there are a lot of liberals that like to keep that number we appropriate or those cuts are going. "let's target the cuts say little bit." host: referring to round two after the senate approved a short-

he did? he bailed out. he has not spoken since. he affectively called for a general election. he did not contest it. it was much worse than obama's first debate. he appeared before them and was like "don't vote for me." he lost that election. he did not have to call for that election. he called for it to lose it, to stay at home. he has not spoken since. he is having a nice holiday. and then there was papandreou. i was an advisor up until 2006. so i am not to blame. who unfortunately, he did not see the crisis of the eurozone collapsing. the eurozone had no foundation. there was an earthquake. it starts unraveling with greece. now, let's say between 1995 and 2008 god and his angels descended on an athens and ran the show. with rationality, omniscience, ethos, and morality. greece would not have been the first domino to fall. but it would have been the third. grace would have fallen after ireland or possibly after portugal. it was never designed to sustain a crisis like 2008. we were doomed. finally, the united states that we know today is the result of the crisis of the 19th cent

been so proud to see barack obama elected in north carolina, to see the state go for barack obama. sadly, it was not to happen again in 2012, although we worked hard at it. anyway, my first campaign that i actually was involved with was mcgovern in 1972. i think my wife kim has the bumper sticker that says "don't blame me, i'm from massachusetts." i think massachusetts was the only state to go for mcgovern, sadly. kim also took a year off between high-school and college and a ring doorbells and called people up for that at the field office in upstate new york. i worked with carol king and barbra streisand. we did a couple of concerts. it was 3/4 mcgovern as a time signature, me, and carol, and a barbara streisand. in the years since then, i have gotten involved with a number of people in massachusetts, gary studds, ted kennedy, i worked on his campaign, i worked for elizabeth warren this pastime. i have written it down, if i could find it. i worked for dukakis and mondale and gore and kerry, a long list, clinton and jimmy carter. i have worked on john anderson's campaign. the only

? >> two words.; presidential leadership. i hope that president obama now that he is elected will do as good a job in tackling tough issues as he did in getting reelected. there are 535 of us and we all have ideas, and in the senate, we probably have 40, 50, or 60 of us who say we are ready to raise revenues and control entitlements. we have said that. the republican leader has said in an editorial in "wall street journal" that he would be ready to raise revenue. if i had waited for the state legislature to come up with a road program, which would be on dirt roads. the president has to seize the moment to make a proposal about revenues, and he has to go across this country and say i will give you a very tough maze. you will not get your medicare bills paid if we did not deal with that now, and you're not going to like it, but i am here to tell you that we are going to have to do it if he were to do that, if all of us were st aying we are ready to work with you to solve the problem. he is the president, and just as reagan worked key deal with tip o'neill and bill clinton did on welfare r

very vital in this election. president obama can carry the banner high and proudly and well. the things he has done, whether it is health reform or education reform, making higher education more affordable, expanding pell grants, creating the consumer financial protection bureau. they are all aimed at one thing -- to create a economy in which we have a vital middle-class and our tax policy reflects that as well. opportunity is broadly available. i think that is solidly in the mainstream of the democratic party. we can have a debate about means of achieving that, and i think we have to do some soul- searching about how in the 21st centur we achieve those goals, and whether all the avenues and pathways that made sense 50 and 60 and 70 years ago are still valid today. many of them may be -- some may t. on the fundamental goals, he is solidly in the position of the democratic party, saw the lead progressive -- solidly progressive. i think that is a lot of what the election was about. >> in this election it has been observed that much of the advertising was predominantly negative. i w

when they reelected obama. they are still trying to fight for what they want themselves. i wonder what this country's going to come to in the next election. i am worried about the democrat and republican party. we do not know what the changes would be. another thing is the billions of dollars they are spending overseas trying to fight the war over there. they are financing billions, i believe to understood, it is that expensive. lives are being lost. i know it sounds reasonable to some people. you take people that do not care to die, like a lot of those suicide bombers, you cannot get rid of all of the terrorists. they are a country that is mixed up. i am concerned for the world. poor people do not seem to get a chance. the wealthy need another million when we need another dollar. host: times in arkansas. a reporter with politico -- john in kansas, republican. caller: hi, my comment is, i hope they pass the proposal so they can pass a sensible bill that addresses our national debt, and other legitimate concerns. and, we as citizens of america, and need to be responsible and we need to

are doing precisely what the people who elected them did, which is rolled back obama initiatives, cut spending. a lot that the debt ceiling should not be increased under a circumstances where they feel like i was a failure. but they basically believe their job is first to obstruct barack obama and once there is a republican president in place to pass this initiatives that create better business climate. more and more deregulation committee funding of programs that have never quite been near and dear to them. i think they do believe -- of course to fast-forward a bit about the debt ceiling fiasco of 2011, but after the summer we were taken to the brink of a fiscal cliff, one we are about to see it it can come in to thinking part of the house republican leadership was maybe her tea party freshman will go home, get yelled at by constituents and they'll realize this compromise is not such a bad thing. the opposite occurred. he went home and people go to town halls tend to be the activists of their party and those people tend to be tea party and everyone screaming, why did you accept a dea
